    Twinsfest

Last weekend, Dana and I attended our first annual "Twinsfest". For those of you who don't know what Twinsfest is, its a festival held every year in Twinsburg, OH, that basically honors twins and multiples. When we were first invited to attend, we really weren't sure if it was for us. Besides, we couldn't really decipher what one actually does at a "Twinsfest". But we decided to check it out anyway - if nothing else, it would make for a good story!

So what do twins do at this fest? I'll tell you what we did at our inaugural ("virgin" in festival lingo) fest. We dressed and did our hair & make-up alike, took pictures of ourselves with many other sets of twins, marched in a parade just for twins, participated in paid research studies, networked with people from all over the country, and partied til the wee hours of the morning with hundreds of other twins! It was sooooo much fun! And, its actually full of twins in all age groups, so you really get to meet a variety of individuals. The festival also has contests, a beer garden, and other such crazy events that we didn't even get to.

I'm sure to single birthed individuals, its probably much like a gaming convention - full of geeks & freaks! But for twins, its like a paradise. Its the chance for us to be the "norm" and not be stared at just because we look alike. (Okay - so that's a bit of an exaggeration -being a twin doesn't really cause the emotional and social strains that many other birthing anomolies do).

Nonetheless, we've decided to make this an annual event. Most of the twins we met come every year and have been for years! Sadly, my camera is still out of commission, but I managed to steal a few photos from others so you can get a taste of what its like.

    Enjoy!

This picture was taken before the parade. The twins at the bottom left of this picture are the friends that convinced us to attend the fest.
This years fest had a sports theme in honor of the olympics, so we dressed in Colts gear so that we could "honor" Dallas Clark in the parade. We ended up marching with a huge group of Colts fans and our group actually won the award for the most unique group.
(its cause we made up this goofy cheer and dance to do in the parade!!)

     The parade.......

    Oh the parties.... :-)

No worries, that's Dana in the picture! Granted, I would've joined had I not been busy mingling...

One of many pictures with twins!

    I'm so proud of myself!!
Yesterday morning Bill and I went to Northwestern Mutual's annual "roots & wings" kickoff, which included a 5K walk/run. I'm not really much of a runner - and when I do run, I run slow.  I can do a few exercises for long distances/periods of time, but running is not one of them.

My friend Emily, who runs mini marathons, told me that I should just try to run as far as I could, rather than planning ahead to alternate walking and running. She said I would probably be surprised at how far I could go. And guess what - she was right. I ran the entire 5K without any problems!!

I actually stopped right before the finish line and waited almost 7 minutes for Bill to catch up so we could cross the finish line together! The only reason I'm mentioning this is because leading up to the event, he kept saying how I'd never be able to keep up with him. Don't worry, I didn't rub this in his face. I'm sure he was embarassed enough :-)

Now for you triathletes, marathon runners, and mini runners, I realize that a 3.1 miles race is not even a full training session for you! But for me, it was a great stride in my life. And now I'm contemplating training for a 10K race seeing that the 5K wasn't as hard as I expected.

I will conclude my entry with a question for our runners...how do you drink water and run at the same time? I tried to do it twice at the water stations and didn't have much luck. I nearly choked to death the first time and managed to miss my mouth the second time. Any pointers would be appreciated!

Oh yeah..."roots & wings" is just the company's annual conference where thousands of sales reps come into town to network with home office employees and other sales reps :-)

    Sadie Mae's a .....?
The results are in! And I will admit, I was completely shocked by what they report. In short, both of Sadie Mae's parents were mutts, but at least one grandparent was a Golden Retriever and at least one was a Toy Fox Terrier (or at least had significant amounts of these breeds!). She also has more distant traces of Dalmatian, Mastiff, and Pug.

I always thought she was a shepherd/terrier/hound mix. I never would have guessed Golden Retriever! But nonetheless, she's still my Sadie :-)

If you're interested in reading more about any of these breeds, you can click on the following link, and select "Golden Retriever" and/or "Fox Terrier (Toy)" from the drop down list.

    Sadie Mae's a .....?

That's what I've been wondering for the past 3 years - what type of dog(s) Sadie is. Anytime I answer the question, I usually say something different, just because I really have no idea.

I'm so excited, because within the next couple of weeks, I should finally have the answer! Today I took her to the vet, where they took a sample of blood. They are going to send it off to this company, called Wisdom Panel, which will run her sample against genetic sequences for 130 different AKC breeds. The end result is a report that tells us what her most dominant breeds are and what her weaker breeds are.

I will definitely fill you guys in when I find out. Any guesses??

    Happy Anniversary to Us!

Since I have no idea what day Sadie Mae was actually born, I decided awhile back that we're going to celebrate our anniversary every year in lieu of a birthday.

Today was our 3 year anniversary. Its crazy because I remember so well the day I brought her home, that its hard to believe that its been 3 years. But at the same time, so much has changed over the past 3 years that I feel like we've been together for our entire lives. I'm just so happy that I met her because she's been such a little blessing!

So to celebrate the occasion, we snuggled then took a nice long nap. Afterwards, we went to the dog park, where we ran around like fiends. To top the night off, she got a chopped up turkey dog, which is her favorite treat! (Mama got a glass of champagne :-).

Now we're just resting up for a big weekend in Chicago!

    Happy Memorial Day Everyone!!!

    17 days...
You probably won't hear a peep from me in the next 17 days and here's why:

In the next 17 days, I have to:
    - Write and research a 50 page paper
    - Write a 10 page final exam
    - Study for  and take another final exam
    - Present my defense for my capstone project
    - Take a quiz
    - Finish 2 homework assignments

So wish me luck as I will need all the luck I can get and all the time management skills I never learned :-)

PS..I graduate in 20 days!!! Yay!!!!

    Grandma Resner Update

I'm quite pleased to report that my grandma is home now recovering from her incident. She apparently had a minor stroke and is expected to make a complete recovery :-) The doctors say she's a VERY lucky woman because it could have been worse, but I'm just glad it wasn't.

She gets real tired in the afternoons, but other than that, she said she's feeling almost normal. Yay!!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and sympathies!! They most certainly helped.

    My Grandma :-(

I found out this morning that my grandma Resner (my mom's mother) collapsed early this morning while trying to get something out of the closet. My grandpa found her unconscious and was able to wake her up, but he couldn't get her to walk or stand on her own. He called an ambulance which took her to the hospital. She's now in the ICU now at Silver Cross hospital in Joliet. She is talking okay, but she can't walk at all and she feels very sick to her stomach.

She just had an MRI and so hopefully they'll figure out very soon what is wrong - my sister thinks it was either a stroke or a spinal cord injury. I just hope they can fix her and that she gets better real quick! I am hoping she can have visitors tomorrow so that I can go visit her and my grandpa.

So I just ask for your thoughts and prayers while she is dealing with all this. My poor grandparents.

    I got nothing!

I feel like I haven't posted for quite some time, but really not much has changed over the past few months. My last day of work at St. Matthias Parish is on March 5th. After I am done working, I plan on spending a large portion of my time trying to find a job, moving, and hopefully buying a house (or condo)!

So I guess I didn't really have anything exciting YET to post, but hopefully some post graduation plans will be figured out here shortly :-)

    Calling all hummus recipes!
Anyone hardcore hummus eaters out there? I remember we used to eat it alot in undergrad - but I can't remember how we used to make it.

I am looking for snacks that I can easily carry on campus with me during looong days that are filling but healthy :-)

    Any suggestions?

    Yay!
I'm in Florida right now recovering from the nasty cold I caught at the end of last week. I couldn't ask for a better way to get healthy. Its currently 80+ degrees and sunny :-)

The whole family thing really hasn't been much of a problem. I talked to my grandma about it, and well, she knew it was coming. So, that's that!

Other than that, not much else is knew. I'm just enjoying my time down here with family!

    Cheers

    Merry Christmas!

So what did everyone do to celebrate the holidays? Bill and I made the executive decision to do our own Christmas this year. I'll admit, I was a little nervous that Christmas would be a flop because I was too busy with finals (I finished last Friday!)  and work to do much planning and Bill is kind of ...well....lazy.

But it turned out to be a really nice Christmas. Bill made us a feast of ham, red-skinned mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, rolls, and of course a green bean casserole, with red velvet cake for dessert. Yummy! And I will have left overs for the rest of the week :-) We also went to see a movie and just spent some quality time together.

So all in all, it was a great Christmas!

    Merry Christmas Everyone!

    2 words....
    SNOW DAY!

Everything is closed because we're expecting about 1/2" of ice on top of the mounds of snowing that keep heaping up. I was supposed to have a network lunch today (cancelled), a meeting on campus (cancelled), and class tonight (still unsure if its cancelled). Work is closed too, though I wasn't planning on going in today anyway.

UWM closed the campus for all the day classes, which are those that start before 4:30 pm. Since this class starts at 4 pm, I'm not sure where the professor stands....

Though I hate to drive in the snow & ice, I kind of hope he doesn't cancel class because I really like this class and we are supposed to review for the final next week. Plus we are supposed to go to the bar on campus afterwards to celebrate the end of the semester!!

I have  take home final due Wednesday that I am cramming for at this point!!! Ahhhh!!!!!!
